Save As Exercise.
Computers are notorious for losing data so it is imperative that you save all your Microsoft Word 2003 files regularly.
Here we show you how.
Extract from Microsoft Word 2003 Training Manual
Type the following text at the insertion point:
"Jim awakened to the sound of a bulldozer engine outside his apartment. He dressed hurriedly and went outside to see what the commotion was about. To his dismay the historic building across the street was being demolished."
Click on the Standard toolbar or Click File and Save As. Either option opens another Window called the Save As Dialogue Box.
|
We are going to save our work in the My Documents folder and name it "Historic Building". |
The program will add ".doc" to our name which indicates that it is a Microsoft Word document. The ".doc" is known as a file extension. If you also study Microsoft Excel you will learn that the file extension for Excel is ".xls". |
|
We can also create new folders in this box if we wish. In the File Name box type "Historic Building" and then click the Save button. Once we name our file and save it, notice that our new name appears on the title bar at the very top of the document above the Menus and Toolbars. From now on as we continue to type we can click the floppy disk icon on the Toolbar and the enlarged file will be saved over the top of the original file. This is called overwriting the original version.
You will find full illustrations like the above throughout your Microsoft Word 2003 Training Manual. Save As Example.
