Tabs or Tab Stops: An accurate method to line up text by inserting tab stops on the horizontal ruler.

Tab stops are set initially at every half-inch (1.27cm)

There are 5 different Tab Stop alignments: Left, Right, Centre, Decimal and Bar.

 

WORKING WITH TABS AND TAB STOPS IN MICROSOFT WORD 2003

How do we create Tab and Tab Stops? We now turn our attention to positioning Tabs and Tab Stops.

As mentioned above Tabs are an accurate method to line up text by inserting tab stops on the horizontal ruler.

Tab stops are set initially at every half-inch (1.27cm).

Tabs are used to change the horizontal position of text.

Examples are: Indent the first line of a paragraph:

Create a vertical columnar list equally spaced. How do we set Tabs on the Horizontal Ruler?

There are a couple of steps involved. Note the Tab Stop Symbol in the left hand corner of the Horizontal Ruler When we click on the Tab Stop Symbol the icon toggles alignment with each click from Left Tab to Centre Tab etcÂ… as indicated below. We will concentrate on the 5 Tab Alignments. We have already discussed the Indents above. Referring back to our columnar list, we selected the Left Tab Alignment and then clicked on the following positions on the Horizontal Ruler: 5,8,11. By doing this the, the Left Tab Stop symbol appeared on the ruler-see below.
